Lansdowne/Upper Darby Rotary Club Student of the Month Awards

The Rotary Club of Upper Darby and Lansdowne recognizes high school seniors from the Penn Wood, Archbishop Prendergast, Monsignor Bonner, and Upper Darby High Schools in its Student of the Month Program.

At Penn Wood High School, Joel Alexander and Alpha Mansaray were recognized as Students of the Month for March 2010. Students are selected based on academic performance, leadership skills, and participation in extracurricular activities.

Mr. Alexander's current academic schedule includes an Advanced Placement (AP) course in Calculus. He has also taken courses at Delaware County Community College through the Dual Enrollment Program, and he has been a member of Penn Wood's Distinguished Honor Roll and Honor Roll this school year. During his time at Penn Wood, Joel has played on the football team and participated in the Instructional Technology Club, Science Olympiad, and Penn Wood High School's first Global Warming Conference. He volunteers at an elementary school, participates in his church's children's choir, baby-sits, does landscaping work for neighbors, and assists his mother with her catering business. Joel Alexander plans to continue his education at Neumont University in Utah, majoring in Computer Science.
