Lansdowne/Upper Darby Rotary Club Student of the Month Awards
The Rotary Club of Upper Darby and Lansdowne recognizes high school seniors from the Penn Wood, Archbishop Prendergast, Monsignor Bonner, and Upper Darby High Schools in its Student of the Month Program.
At Penn Wood High School, Samantha Luma and Marc Jackson were recognized as Students of the Month for April 2010. Students are selected based on academic performance, leadership skills, and participation in extracurricular activities.
Ms. Luma's current academic schedule includes an Advanced Placement (AP) course in English Literature and Composition, Psychology, Physics and Pre-Calculus. She is Secretary of the Penn Wood High School Chapter of National Honor Society, a member of the National Art Honor Society, Student Council, Drama Club, Distinguished Honor Roll, and plays on the Lacrosse Team. She is also a member of the Youth Organization of her church. Samantha volunteers in the annual Yeadon Flag Day and assists in the Emergency Management Department. Ms. Samantha Luma has been accepted to Saint Joseph's University, where she will major in Biology in pursuit of a career as a Hematologist.
Mr. Jackson also has a demanding course load including AP Chemistry, Sociology, Forensic Science, and courses at Delaware County Community College through the Dual Enrollment Program. Marc is a member of the National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, Student Council, and the Baseball Team. He volunteers at his church's Vacation Bible School and participates in the Yeadon Education Athletic Association. After high school, Mr. Marc Jackson will attend Penn State University - University Park Campus in pursuit of a career in the field of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
Samantha Luma and Marc Jackson were honored at a luncheon held at the Drexelbrook Conference Center and were presented with a plaque from the Rotary Club.
